Convert PNG to JPG on your device
Need a JPEG for a form or a smaller photographic image? Select your PNG, choose JPEG output and download a new file. JPG and JPEG refer to the same image format; minimage uses the .jpg extension.
Convert in four steps
- Open the converter and choose a PNG file. JPEG is already selected in the visible output control.
- Leave width and height empty to keep the original dimensions, or enter a size. The image keeps its proportions.
- Start with the quality slider at 90. Lower quality can reduce bytes but may introduce visible artifacts. You can also set a maximum KB limit.
- Choose Resize image, then download and inspect the JPEG. Compare fine text, faces and sharp edges with the original.
Check transparency before converting
JPEG cannot store transparent pixels. Transparent areas are flattened by the browser encoder and can become dark; this tool does not offer a background-colour control. For logos, cut-outs and transparent graphics, keep PNG or use WebP if the destination accepts it. To obtain a specific JPEG background, flatten the image onto that colour in an image editor first.
When JPG makes sense
JPEG is useful for photographs and destinations that explicitly require JPEG. PNG may be the better choice for screenshots, small text and diagrams where crisp edges matter. Conversion alone does not guarantee a smaller file: compare the actual output size, not just the extension.
A new file, with metadata removed
minimage decodes and re-encodes the image locally. It removes metadata, including location and camera details, and keeps the decoded orientation. Your original stays unchanged. The tool does not upload the image and needs no account. Output exists in the tab until you download it or close the page.
Sending the result to an application portal
Check the portal’s format, dimensions, framing and size limits separately. A JPG extension alone does not establish compliance. Use the KB compression guide for a maximum size and sourced document-photo presets for supported starting dimensions.
