Convert images to WebP for the web

Create a WebP copy of a JPEG or PNG in your browser. Resize it for its intended display size, adjust quality and compare the actual bytes before replacing an existing web image.

Open the WebP converter

Make a WebP copy

  1. Open the converter and select your source image. WebP is selected in the output control.
  2. Set a width appropriate to its use, or leave dimensions empty. Consider the display’s pixel density when choosing a width; a 600 CSS-pixel image might need a 1200-pixel source for a 2× display.
  3. Adjust quality or enter a maximum KB size. Lower quality can reduce detail; compare the exported result at the size visitors will see.
  4. Choose Resize image and download. Test the file in the website or application that will use it.

Why compare before switching?

WebP supports colour images and transparency. It can be useful for website photos and graphics, but the size saving depends on the source and settings. A WebP export is not guaranteed to be smaller than every JPEG or PNG. minimage shows the actual encoded size so you can decide.

Transparency, quality and compatibility

Use WebP rather than JPEG when transparent areas need to remain transparent and your destination accepts WebP. This tool’s quality-controlled WebP export is not advertised as lossless. Inspect text, gradients and edges. Animated-image preservation is not offered.

An application portal that asks for JPEG may reject WebP even when it looks correct. Use JPEG conversion for destinations that require JPEG, and check your website’s image pipeline before replacing assets.

Local processing and a separate download

Your image is processed on your device and metadata is removed during export. The original file remains unchanged; download the WebP before closing the tab. Optional Analytics consent is separate and is not needed to use the converter.

See the resizing guide for format trade-offs or set a maximum file size.
